Why we publish the weight of every garment
Missurbaani · 6 Sept 2026
Eighty grams and a hundred and forty grams are different clothes. The label rarely says which one you are buying.
Fabric weight, measured in grams per square metre, is the single most useful number about a garment and almost nobody prints it. Kota doria at eighty gsm and tussar at a hundred and forty gsm are both handloom, both silk-containing, both sold as summer wear — and one of them is genuinely wearable in a Delhi June while the other is not. We publish gsm on every product page for the same reason we publish the panel count on an anarkali: it is the fact that predicts how the thing will actually behave, and it is cheap for us to disclose and expensive for you to discover after the fact.
